Is my child ready for music lessons?
Parents, your child has a place in the music community right now. Sometimes I hear parents wonder if their child is ready for piano lessons.
They are ready. Moreover, the music community is ready for them. The best time for a child to start learning music is when they are brand new. The second best time is now.
The goal here is not to teach kids music in a competitive context. I have done that. I can teach kids to play very impressively after a couple of years. I’ve decided I don’t want that to be the focus. Often when the focus is on impressive performance, kids quit. They like to think and do; most of them aren’t motivated solely by performing for others.
Instead, we teach kids music in a community context. Many of them will still play impressively. They’ll do it with an understanding of how to engage audiences and colleagues. Everyone will learn.
We do it this way so that music can enrich them for a lifetime. And so that they can enrich music in turn.
Unless you have a time machine, there’s no better time than now to start. Don’t worry about behavior, confidence, or talent. I’ve undergone specialized training that allows me to recognize where students are in their musical development, and to teach what they will need in order to keep learning.
So don’t worry, I’ll take care of everything.
